Pain

Dr. Sang (Damanpal) Nguyen, L.Ac

Pain is one of the major subjects in any medicine. In Traditional Medicine, Pain may be due to:

  1. Stagnation of Qi: Paroxysmal, Colicky, Achy, or Distending Pain

  2. Stagnation of Blood: Dull or Lingering Pain

  3. Blood Stasis: Fixed and, or Sharp Pain

  4. Blood Deficiency: Hollow Pain (Poor Blood Circulation), Numbness, Discomfort

  5. Pathogenic Invasion: (Emotional, Stress, Weather, and Environment can trigger pain)

  • Wind: moving pain, radiating pain, flared-up pain

  • Cold: pain aggravated (with Cold Weather), spasm, tightness

  • Damp: heavy aching Pain, stationary pain

  • Heat: swelling, burning Pain

6. Trauma: Pain varies

Physical Pain is uncomfortable. Acute Pain is sharp pain, or pain that is worse than uncomfortable. Chronic pain is dull, achy, persistent pain. Furthermore, Emotional Pain, Mental Pain, Energetic Pain, and Spiritual Pain are in the panoply of discomfort.

Pain can be a form of energy stagnation. Energy needs to be in the flow.

“If there is free flow, there is no pain; if there is no free flow, there is pain.” Classic Chinese proverb

Traditional Medicine offers acupuncture, herbal formula, massage, moxa, cupping, tai chi, and qigong. These are the tools which move the internal body energy back to its balanced state, so that it can boost the qi movement and blood circulation. When qi and blood are moving in harmony, our body, mind, and spirit will benefit.

Recommendation: 1 hour daily exercise (to begin with). Movement/dancing/yoga/tai chi/qi gong/swimming etc. are beneficial.

Preparation for a Kundalini Yoga & Meditation class

Dr. Sang (Damanpal) Nguyen, L.Ac

In a Kundalini Yoga and Meditation (KYM) class, there are mantras,  kriyas (physical postures), and pranayama (breath). These are a part of “Jap” repetition movements, breathing, and chanting which will create heat for physical strength, stamina, and mental focus. You can optimize your physical and energy bodies by utilizing “Jap” repetition.

Preparing for a Kundalini Yoga and Meditation class:

  • Do not eat anything 2 hours before the class.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing >>> Yogi Bhajan said to wear white clothing to expand your aura by at least one foot. (By having a strong aura, you can automatically filter some of the negative influences in the field.)

  • Bare feet >>> stimulate the 72000 nerve endings

  • Head covering - cotton cloth >>> to support focus while practicing yoga and meditation: the head covering enables you to command your 6th Chakra center, to tighten the cranial together, and to stabilize the cerebral mater, which is interlocked with the neurological system and electromagnetic field.

  • Yoga Mat and Blanket – sheepskin, natural fiber, wool material, or carpet mat >>> choose the best insulator to keep you grounded during meditation.

During Your Practice:

  • Listen to your body and do what works for you

  • Challenge yourself and keep up

  • Follow the directions. Do Not exceed the stated times; shorten practice time if you wish.

  • For women, when on Moon cycle/during pregnancy, avoid strenuous kriya and breath of fire.

After Your Practice:

  • Drink lots of water.

  • Pick a kriya, pranayama, mantra, and/or meditation to go home with you.

Intimacy Practice

Dr. Sang Nguyen, L.Ac

Healthy Sex is Healthy Living.

Women by nature take a longer time than men to warm up to sex.  A woman may need to be relaxed and feel loved to open up.  A woman is in charge of her sexual experiences by getting to know her body well and the sexual positions that will lead to orgasms.  In Tantra intimacy practice, there is no goal in making love.

However, some planning may come in handy before engaging in intimacy practices.

For HIM:

  • Be intuitive, attentive, and open with her energy

  • Set the scene, prepare the room, and make it as esthetically romantic as you can.

  • Find a way to encourage relaxation. (For example, offer some tasty tea or light massage)

  • Prepare some healthy food, light some candles, and play soft music in the background.

  • Touch caressingly, gently, etc.

Find out what she likes.  Give her time to warm up and desire you.  Use your words thoughtfully. When she aches for you, take your time.  With love, kiss her on the lips, face, neck, and spine. Breathe together and slowly merge into a deeper and deeper space of intimacy.

For HER:

  • Ask him for what you want. Tell him exactly how you like it. Be as specific as possible (and as warranted); remember every situation is different.

  • Meditatively slow down; surrender to the moment as to build the energy and extend the pleasure.

  • Encourage him. Squeeze him closer to you and show him that you enjoy his attention.

  • Breathe slowly and deeply; resist the temptation to proceed hard and fast.

  • Know yourself, your body, and your emotional tendencies. You can be open and trust your flow by relaxing into your innate nature of love and intuition.

For HIM and HER

  • Connect at a deeper level through eyes gazing

  • Harmonize the flow of energy through meditation and breathing

  • Have an attitude of unity

  • Practice yoga to open the energy centers.

  • Eat Plant-based food for the Lymphatic flow
